Frequently asked questions

How does the image colour picker work?
The tool uses the HTML5 Canvas API to read the pixel data of your uploaded image directly in your browser. It then clusters the pixel colours using a median-cut algorithm to identify the most dominant distinct colours and presents them as a palette.
Is my image sent to a server?
No. Your image never leaves your device. All processing happens locally in your browser. We don't receive, store, or process your images at any point.
What image formats are supported?
The tool supports any format your browser can display — typically JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, SVG, and AVIF. Very large images may take a moment to process.
How many colours can I extract?
The tool extracts up to 12 dominant colours per image. You can adjust the slider on the extraction page to get fewer colours if you want a tighter palette.
Can I use this to find brand colours from a logo?
Absolutely. Upload a PNG or SVG of the logo and the extractor will identify the key brand colours. Logos with flat colours tend to give the cleanest results.
What can I use the extracted colours for?
Copy the hex codes into CSS, Tailwind config, Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, Canva, PowerPoint, or any design or development tool that accepts hex colour values.
